FICCI FlO Uttarakhand Chapter (FICCI ladies Organisation) would conduct a half marathon with the focus of the event trained on saving the girl children and also on women empowerment. Slated on August 5 from Maharana Sports College based in Raipur, the marathon would be conducted in three categories- 5km, 10km and 21 km. During a press conference here on Monday, the organisers of the event said that the marathon aims to run for a cause-empowering women and saving the girl child. And both the causes are the need of the hour.

They, further, said that the participants can choose from any of the three categories. While the half marathon for 5 km and 10 km is open to all there are sections of 18-30 years, 30-40 years, 40 to 50 years and people above 50 years regarding the 21 km category, they said, adding that the run would start at 5.30 am and will conclude by 7 am. Each participant would get a t-shirt, medal and certificate along with some others. 

While addressing the media persons during the conference, the joint treasurer FICCI FlO Sarika Panchi urged the denizens of Dehradun participate in any of the three categories of the run.  “It will be a good platform for all fitness conscious to connect,” she said, adding that the services available during the marathon include a special team for route support, water points, medical counter, physiotherapist team, ambulance ready on route and selfie zone for photography.

Speaking about the event, the Vice-President FICCI FlO Uttarakhand Kiran Bhatt Todaria said, “The half marathon is being held with a noble cause. We are committed  to supporting the cause of women empowerment.

If the society is to grow it is important for  the women to unchain themselves from physical, emotional and mental shackles. Besides, we are also worried about the predicament the girls face in the families. We are sure that the run would take the two causes nearer to the heart of the people, giving more verve to the movement.”
