Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) KG Balakrishnan on Sunday said that the wealth (resources) of the society (both public and private sectors) must be equally distributed among each section to ensure uniform development.
“One of the key features of Directive Principles is to ensure equality among one and all. Wealth of the community here implies to the availability of the basic facilities for all irrespective of anything. State governments must abide by the rules as described in the Constitution of India,” said Balakrishnan.
The former CJI was addressing a gathering in a programme titled ‘Present Reservation Policy’ organized by All India SC/ST and OBC Forum at Social Development Centre. Balakrishnan pointed out that it is not just the public sector but in the private sectors as well equal opportunities should be generated to uplift the underprivileged class.
“For everything government cannot be blamed. Whosoever takes money from nationalized banks or government exchequer to run a private entity must do something for the society. By far, no money is being used for charitable purpose by the private business parties who take loan from government organizations. Public money cannot be used only by a few people but must be shared among all,” Balakrishnan added.
Citing example of Tunisia from where Arab Spring revolution initiated, Balakrishnan further said small incident can bring a change in society; attempts must be made by all to become the voice of those countless number of people who are deprived of facilities. “Role in society of every individual is great. Do not minimize your voice; things will slowly fall in place. Prove yourself and work with devotion to make your presence felt. This kind of public gathering provides a platform for all to share their ideas and opinions.”
Furthermore, the former CJI added that importance of assembling for a cause has larger impact. Steps must be taken by each one of us towards creating a constructive society especially, for those who are actually deprived. “We must raise the voice but must also remember the fact that only blaming the system will not fulfill the aspiration,” said Balakrishna.
Meanwhile expressing his views, General Secretary – All India SC/ST and OBC Forum, Dr. Sahdeo Ram said that attempts are being made to abolish reservation by the government. Ram on the occasion said that as many as 42 welfare schemes meant for the reserved class has been scraped out by Government of India (GoI).
“Since United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, we have been getting just assurance that all vacant reserved posts will be filled up but nothing has been done on this. In Jharkhand anomalies involved in recruitment process especially, through State public service commission present a gloomy picture. The recent decision of Jharkhand government to merge government schools is a clear indication that the attempt is to scrap reservation p policy,” added Ram.
