To maintain law and order on New Year’s eve, the Delhi Traffic Police has made an elaborate traffic arrangement in the national Capital especially in Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden and others for the smooth traffic flow. Following the advisory, Delhi Metro has also issued advisory restricting exit at Rajiv Chowk from 9 pm (December 31) onwards.
However, passengers will be allowed to enter the Rajiv Chowk Metro station after 9 pm for boarding the trains. “This will enable people visiting Connaught Place to go out from Connaught place to their desired destination. Interchange facility between Line-2 (HUDA City Centre - Samaypur Badli) and Line-3-4 (Dwarka Sec-21 - Noida City Centre/Vaishali) will continue as usual at Rajiv Chowk Metro station till the end of revenue services,” said a DMRC official.
Expecting a crowd in the central Delhi Especially the Connaught Place, special restrictions will be imposed on private and public transport vehicles from 8 pm onwards on 31 December in the vicinity of Connaught Place till the conclusion of New Year Celebrations.
According to BK Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, (Traffic), no vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House, Bengali Market , North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road —Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Rly. Station), RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing , Gole Market , GPO, New Delhi, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road - Ferozshah Road Crossing, Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane and Windsor place.
“No vehicular traffic shall be allowed in inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place. The motorist who will visit the CP after 8pm have to park their vehicle outside the area such as Near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg, Pandit Pant Marg, Bhai Veer Singh Marg and near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj road behind AIR,” said Additional CP.
“Further, parking spaces will be provided Near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg upto Baroda House,Minto Road on D.D. Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area, Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road & Basant Road towards Pahar Ganj. KG Marg near Ferozshah Road or KG Marg to ‘C’ Hexagon, Near Windsor Place, Rajender Prasad Road and Raisina Road,” said the traffic police official.
“Suggested routes have been created for North - South movements. Commuters can take Ring Road from ISBT to reach Ashram. They can also take Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road to reach Ashram,” said Singh.
“Motorists travelling from East to West Delhi can opt Ring Road, Bhairon Road, ‘C’ Hexagon-India Gate, Akbar Road, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Shankar Road to reach their destination,” said Singh.
“To avoid the unwanted nuisance on the eve, the traffic police teams will also be deployed at various points of the city to take strict action against drunken driving, stunt biking, over speeding, reckless driving, rash and reckless driving,” said Additional CP.
