Drafts sought from departments for Investment Summit

In view of the upcoming ‘Investment Summit’, the Uttarakhand Government has directed different departments to prepare draft of their policy aimed at attracting investment. The departments would submit the draft till August 15. Meanwhile, expecting arrival of investment to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore, the State administration is gearing up for the successful conduct of the much-hyped summit slated on October 4 and 5 in Dehradun.

In a meeting held at the State secretariat on Monday to oversee the preparation for the mega event, the State chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh directed all the departments to prepare lists of such projects which have the potential to attract investments and also the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). He said that 50 projects with potential to attract investment to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore and more have been prepared.

The CS was told that the sectors like information technology (IT), biotechnology, skill development, electronics, food park, warehousing, film production, medical health, fishery, organic farming, wellness tourism, Yoga and medicinal plants have great potential for investments. The State Government would hold road shows in major cities of the country for promotion of the summit, he said, adding that these shows would highlight the resources of the State, connectivity, law and order situation, availability of power, land lease policy and single window system to woo the investors. The CS, further, said that round tables would be held in different countries where the organisers would try to hammer home the investor-friendly environment prevailing in Uttarakhand and also to present the State as an ideal place for investments.

The meeting was attended among others by the principal secretary Manisha Panwar, principal secretary Home Anand Vardhan, secretary Tourism Dilip Javalkar, secretary Agriculture, D Senthil Pandian, Garhwal Commissioner Shailesh Bagoli, secretary Biotechnology Ravi Nath Raman and director IDTA Amit Sinha.
