Soumya Ranjan Singh (11), son of Manoranjan Singh, studying in Class VII of Brajanath Badajena High School here, has bagged the first prize at a recent district-level science exhibition held at the Kanpura High School at Kamakhyanagar.

Singh was selected for the top position for his innovation of a bicycle, which can run like a petrol fueled bike.

Singh has attached two solar panels at the back of his bicycle seat, fitted with a 12 volt battery. Singh claimed that once the battery gets fully charged, it can run the bicycle up to 40 km at a stretch.

The cycle not only minimizes the travelling cost as an alternative of a petrol or diesel- run vehicle, it can help in minimizing pollution.

Besides, a differently able person can ride the cycle, he told.
