Anti-encroachment drive is creating problems for the commuters in the city as the police are going for route diversions in view of the debris generated by the demolition blocking parts of roads.
Severe traffic snarls were witnessed on the important roads of the city on Friday, giving the commuters a harrowing time. The suddenly announced traffic diversion is compounding their problems further.
The hassled commuters say that the police announcing diversion when the demolition drive is on is adding further to their daily ordeal on the roads. “We support the demolition drive against encroachments. However, prior to the drive, they should have firmed up a strategy to spare the commuters the problems we are now facing. Now enforcing the traffic diversions for some hours during the peak commuting time is resulting in a mess on the roads ,” one of the commuters said.
They said that the cars are facing the maximum brunt of things. “The roads being narrow, things are turning grimmer now with the demolition drive on. We are taking the detour through the smaller inside roads and we are facing huge traffic pileup subsequently,” said another commuter.
However, the police officers said that enforcing the traffic diversion is a compulsion. “We cannot allow traffic to move along the roads where the demolition drive is on.
We are trying our best to mitigate the on –the- road trouble for the commuters. However, they must bear with us till the drive is completed,” said a senior police officer.
