Deadline for House Taxes deposit extended till March 31

Those who are yet to deposit their house taxes under the self- assessment tax payment plan can do the same till March 31 this year. The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar has extended the date to facilitate them to deposit taxes under the plan, said a civic body official, adding that the last date as per the earlier order   was   January 31.  Besides, it was decided that 40 per cent waiver for house tax would be given to the women,  the senior citizens and  the Uttarakhand statehood activists.

A unanimous resolution, extending the date for the house tax payment and announcing relaxation for some was passed in course of the municipal corporation board meeting held on Tuesday.

To make house tax payment process easier, the State Government had launched the self assessment scheme in 2015. The corporation had since received applications from 28000 domestic and 4000 professional property owners. However, 6000 of them are yet to clear the taxes. 

The city mayor Manoj Garg said that they have made a few changes in the tax recovery process. Some relaxation has been given to senior citizens, women and Uttarakhand statehood activists under self -assessment tax payment scheme. “The date for depositing house tax has been extended to March 31. We hope that those who are yet to clear the taxes would clear them by then,” he added.

Some other resolutions were passed during the municipal corporation board meeting. It was decided that multi- storey parking lots would be made during the major fairs and festivals to ease traffic congestion. It is learnt that a proposal for constructing a parking lot at a land owned by the civic body at Alaknanda green vista stretch at laljiwala opposite Sarwanand Ghat was placed before the board. The lot would be constructed as per the contract signed with Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority. Plans are also afoot to beautify Shivmurti Chowk in the main Haridwar city with the Board’s fund.

Councilor from Jwalapur, Ravi Dhingra demanded the civic body to  purchase vehicles to catch the stray animals which are causing nuisance in the city areas. The Mukhya Nagar Adhikari informed that some stray animals have been caught and kept in Kanji House in Haridwar.
