Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao, in a workshop of divisional commissioners and municipal corporation commissioners on SVEEP activities, said that all divisional commissioners should ensure voting by officers and employees of all major factories, power plants and central institution by holding meetings with their management.
Continuous SVEEP activities should be conducted in creamy layer areas in urban pockets to increase voting turnout and be active in social media and motivate people in whatsapp group for exercising vote. All divisional commissioners should ensure that voting turn in the assembly elections should achieve 80 percent target.
Divisional commissioners have been roped in with SVEEP activities by the election commission of India this time. SVEEP committee at divisional level and SVEEP activity committee in urban areas have been formed. It would be ensured that demonstration of EVM and VVPAT will be held at each polling booth. Rao said in the workshop that innovation should be made to youths and women voters for exercising vote. Appeal for voting should be made on social media. All divisional commissioners and municipal corporation commissioners, nodal officers of divisional level SVEEP were present the workshop.
In the meeting, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Narwal said that SVEEP activities should be held in coordination in the districts. in case we achieve 80 per cent polling turn out target in the assembly general elections 2018, it would be first time in the country. Awards will be given at centre, state and district level on increasing polling turn out in the elections. Awards will be distributed in seven categories at each level.
It was informed during the review in the meeting, that the highest 78.83 per cent turnout was registered in Ujjain division in previous assembly elections. This time the target of 85 per cent polling has been given to Ujjain division. The lowest 65 per cent turnout was recorded in Sagar division in the previous elections.
This time, it would be target between 75 to 80 per cent for Sagar division. Information related with smooth voting, Sugamya portal and pink polling booth was given in the meeting. Narwal said that municipal corporation commissioners have been made electoral district coordinator in urban areas.
In the workshop, Bhopal divisional commissioner informed in the action plan that appeal for vote is being made through teachers by mentioning it in students' diary in schools with the help of school education department and parents' remark will be taken after the polling. Queue less booths will be made in areas like Char Imli and Arera Colony. Awareness campaign towards voting will be launched in defence institutions in Sagar and Jabalpur and different factories in Dewas and Katni.
Appeal through invitation is being sent in Chambal division in view of the big number of service voters in the division. Indore commissioner informed that voters are being motivated in local language and dialects. Jabalpur commissioner gave information about handing over torch from voters having 80 years age to youths, women cricket competition and administering resolution for voting. Hoshangabad commissioner informed about providing special facility to pregnant women and closing coaching institutes two days before the voting day so that youths can vote.
