Court acquits six in dera violence

In a setback to Haryana Police, a local court in Panchkula on Monday acquitted six accused in a case related to 2017 Panchkula violence, which broke out after dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in a rape case on August 25.

The local court acquitted Kaithal resident Hoshiar Singh, Sangrur residents Sanga Singh, Gyani Ram and Tarsem, Muktsar Sahib resident Ravi Kumar, and Karnal resident Ram Kishan of charges of damaging property in Sector 4 near Hafed Chowk in Panckula. They were charged with rioting and damaging public property under sections of Indian Penal Code, as well as Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act last year.
