Contractor shot dead in Ganjam

A contractor was shot dead by three unidentified miscreants at Gothagaon village under the Sheragada police station in Ganjam district late on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Jogi Swain.

According to reports, the three assailants came by a motorcycle and opened fire at Swain, who sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur in a critical condition. While being shifted from the hospital to Visakhapatnam for better treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

While the reason behind the firing was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the incident was a fallout of past enmity. Involvement of a former Sarpanch of the village in the killing has been alleged. Police began investigation into the incident.
