large scale efforts will have to be undertaken to save the mountains, rivers and cities from plastic pollution, said the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. He was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG) here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the protection of the Himalaya and environment was a collective responsibility. Appreciating the role of the WIHG, he said that there is major scope for research on the Himalaya. Rawat said, “It is our collective responsibility to care about the Himalaya and environment conservation. In this direction, political and scientific mentality will have to work together. It is a big challenge to achieve developmental targets while conserving the environment.” The CM said that plastic has become a part of routine life which has also made plastic pollution a major challenge for society. How to achieve development without damaging the environment is a challenge which also needs to be tackled by the scientists. The government will provide all possible assistance to the scientific fraternity towards facilitating this. The CM also spoke about the efforts of the state government for the revival of Rispana and Kosi rivers. He also released the digital version of the institute’s research papers on the occasion. WIHG director Meera Tiwari and other scientists were also among those present on the occasion.
