The state Congress leadership has shot off a letter to the state election commissioner and demanded it to ensure that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not make any public declaration while in Kedarnath shrine in view of the model code of conduct being in force for the urban local body election. Notably, PM Modi would pay obeisance to Lord Kedarnath on November 6.
Speaking of the matter, the state Congress president Pritam Singh said on Tuesday that though the PM is welcome in the State he should take care not to violate the model code of conduct. “The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced a package of Rs 7500 crore for the renovation of the deluge-affected Kedarnath. A large part of it is yet to be cleared by the Centre. We expect the PM to ensure that the pending budget is released soon,” he said.
The state party vice-president Surya Kant Dhasmana also raised question on the visit of the PM when the State is nearing the urban local body election. “We are concerned because of the fact that it is the PM Modi who addressed a public meeting at the revered Kedarnath shrine.
This is unprecedented. He also had his back turned on the deity while he was addressing the gathering. We want that the PM should refrain from making any declaration from Kedarnath as it would amount to the violation of model code of conduct,’’ he said.
