Cong demands revocation of teacher's suspension

Saturday, 30 June 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

Reacting strongly to the suspension of a Government teacher for misbehaving in the Chief Minister’s Janata Darbar programme, the Congress has decided to stage protests across the State on Saturday. Criticising the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s behaviour with the teacher, the Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh has demanded that her suspension be revoked immediately. Earlier,on Thursday, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat had also tweeted about how ‘seniors’ should learn how to forgive.

Talking to The Pioneer, the PCC chief Pritam Singh said that on viewing the video footage of the scene, it is clear that a lady teacher had gone to the CM’s Janata Darbar to communicate her grievances but the Chief Minister lost his cool. “The Chief Minister chiding a woman in such a manner is not acceptable. We demand that her suspension be immediately revoked. The Congress also demands that she should be transferred in the same manner that the wives of those in the Government and senior officials are transferred. To protest against this the party workers will be burning the State Government in effigy across the State on Saturday and if the State Government still doesn’t revoke her suspension, we will stage a protest at Gandhi Park on Sunday.”

He further said that the incident had exposed the rampant anomalies in execution of the Transfer Act. He said, “The State Government touted the Transfer Act but the way it is being implemented has shredded the governmental claims. The Public Works Department officers and employees have been protesting against the Act while those in various other departments have also demand that they be kept outside the purview of the Act. The incident involving the teacher has exposed the Government’s double standards in implementation of the Act,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the former CM and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat hadtweeted that the seniors should learn to forgive but when those who are 'big' become 'small' then it causes discomfort.

He stated, "The behaviour of a junior employee in the Janata Darbar in front of the CM may not be proper but the Chief Minister should not become angry and order her suspension and arrest”.
