Commuters face heat

Commuters in the national Capital faced massive traffic snarls on Thursday after they were stuck in a heavy traffic jam caused due the movement of farmers from across the city to take part in the farmers protest.

Heavy jams were observed at various locations such as Dhaula Kuan, Sradar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Connaught Place outer circle and Minto Road.

The march organised by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) will start from Ramlila Ground on Friday and move towards Parliament Street.

All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination committee (AIKSCC), which claims to be an umbrella body of 207 organisations of farmers and agricultural workers, to gather details of the likely turnout on Friday.

However, In order to manage the traffic movement on Friday, the Delhi Traffic

Police have made elaborate arrangements for the farmers protest.

Around 600 staffs will be deployed on Friday to manage the traffic movement during the farmers protest.

“There will be a rope on both the sides of the marching farmers with the police walking on the other side of the rope to ensure traffic is not affected,” said a senior traffic police official. 

He further added that that they will ensure minimum inconvenience is caused to commuters.

Heavy jams were also observed under the Anand Vihar, Vikas Marg, Rajghat, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg as many of the farmers came in trains and other packed into buses and other modes of transport to Delhi and later converged at Ramlila Ground to press for their demands.

Among other demands, the farmers want debt relief and remunerative prices for their produce.

The route of the march is likely to be followed by a march to the Jantar Manatr from 9.00 am.  “The route of the march will be via Guru Nank-Ranjit Singh flyover- Tolstoy marg.

Therfore trffic is likely to be affected on roads surroundings Ramlila Ground, Jawaharlal NEHRU Marg, Deshbandu Gupta Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Panchkuian Marg, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, reozshah Roas, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Jai Singh and inner and outer circles of Coonaught place,” said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic.

The traffic further advised the commuters keep the advisory in the before going to New Delhi Railway station and also who use this roads to commute.

The traffic police further asked the commuters to follow the social media sites of traffic police to get the updates on traffic movements and jams.
