Several cops, including a Circle officer and a Police Inspector, were injured in stone-pelting even as police were trying to quell a violent mob at Garhwa bus stand on Saturday. Violence broke out when about 100 shopkeepers tried to
stall work of removal their shops from Government land which affected the traffick in the town.
Policemen resorted to lathi charge after the agitated mob pelted stone. Four police men including Circle officer Baidyanath Kamti and Police Inspector Shambhu Gupta initially injured.
The CO said that the task of removing encroachment was going on peacefully. At the same time, MLA representatives Santosh Kesari and his friend Jyoti Prakash Keshari, reached there and started talking about preventing encroachment. When the CO did not accept it, then Santosh stopped JCB and asked its driver to leave from there. After seeing this shopkeepers started stone-pelting. Then police resorted to use mild force in which two shopkeeper were also initially injured.
