Protesting against planned felling of 13 trees of which one has already been axed on Rajpur Road, members of various citizens groups staged a demonstration near NIVH here on Friday evening. The protesting citizens said that while the authorities had marked these trees as dangerous, the trees were green, healthy and posed no risk. They questioned the administration for undertaking such action to damage the natural heritage of the city and biodiversity without formulating a specific policy for the purpose. Members of Citizens For Green Doon, Making a Difference by Being the Difference (MAD), Rajpur Community Initiative and other concerned citizens raised slogans and displayed banners questioning the planned felling of the mature green trees. Earlier during the day, concerned citizens also met the divisional forest officer and the Dehradun district magistrate on the issue.
According to the citizens, the District Magistrate assured them that the plan for felling the trees would be reviewed.
