Centre, State must exempt tax on fuel: Cong

Sunday, 30 September 2018 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The BJD Government in the State and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Center are shading crocodile tears for the sake of common people only.

“The two political parties (BJD and BJP) are making false promises and cheating people of Odisha. Petrol price crossed Rs 82 per litre and diesel Rs 80 per litre in the State. The BJD has decided to stage a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan on October 1. It is just an eye wash. The State Government is collecting Rs 13.26 on a litre of petrol and Rs 12.50 on a litre of diesel as VAT.

Likewise, the Union Government India is imposing excise duty of Rs 19.48 on a litre of petrol and Rs 15.33 on a litre of diesel. In spite of lessening the burden of tax on fuel, they are simply trying to blame each other to get people’s support. But everybody knows their tactics,” alleged the Congress.

The Congress condemned the BJP’s allegation that prices of petroleum products were high during the UPA rule.

“During UPA rule, the crude price was $107.09 on May 16, 2014 when petrol price was Rs 71.41 per litre in India. On September 6, 2018, the crude price was $73 but petrol price sky rocketed to Rs 80 per litre and diesel price to Rs 72. Similarly, the LPG price has been increased from Rs 400 per cylinder,” said the Congress.

Both the State and the Union Governments should exempt taxes on petroleum products, demanded PCC Media Cell chairperson Satya Prakash Nayak.
