Thanks to delay in preparation of detailed project report (DPR), a proposed compost plant in the city to use the waste materials for keeping the city clean is yet to become a reality even after two years.
Neither a DPR has been prepared for constructing the compost plant nor any decision could be made in this regard so far by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities for which Bhubaneswar dropped to 245 rank in the cleanliness survey conducted recently, sources said.
According to reports, in view of delay in setting up proposed waste-to-energy plant at Bhuasuni, on outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the BMC had planned to construct a compost plant at Gadhakan for use of garbage two years ago.
Notably, on an average 500 tonne garbage is collected from across the city a day, out of which around 200 tonne is bio degradable waste.
later, the authorities decided to shift the proposed compost plant near the Sainik School where the garbage is dumped.
The Housing and Urban Development department also approved the BMC’s proposal sanctioning Rs 1.52 crore from UIDF required for construction of the plant.
Even after the BMC authorities received the amount, the DPR is yet to be prepared for the plant.
