The ongoing strike of blood bank officials in the State in last four days has severely affected the blood bank services in different hospitals across the State. The condition is severe at the MKCG Medical College Hospital where the blood bank has been nearly paralysed as the daily requirements of blood are increasing and the stocks are reducing drastically.
Relatives of some thalassemia and sickle cell patients, who are the worst sufferers and need regular and repeated blood transfusion for their survival, alleged that some middlemen are taking the benefit of the stir and are selling a packet of blood at Rs 3,000. It might be mentioned here that a total of 12 employees are there in the blood bank and six doctors have been engaged in the work.
