The first day of the national level strike of public sector banks in Uttarakhand work being stalled in about 1,600 branches of various banks across the State on Wednesday. In Dehradun, the officers and employees of various banks gathered on Parade Ground under the leadership of the the United Forum of Bank Unions coordinator Jagmohan Mendiratta. The protesting bank employees raising slogans against the Union Government and the Indian Banks' Association questioning the proposed wage hike of two per cent. They stated that the bank unions have been pressing for various demands, including wage revision in the wake of the proposal for a two per cent hike in salary. They accused the Central Government of purusing 'anti-public' decisions which would be strongly opposed. Meanwhile, people across the state faced varied inconvenience due to the strike of the bank employees which will also continue on Thursday. Transactions amounting to crores of rupees are believed to have been affected in the state on the first day of the strike. The protesting union members said that work was stalled in about 1,600 bank branches across the State on the first day of the strike.
