A day after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley clarified his Government’s stand over the Rafale deal, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raj Babbar hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal, accusing him of benefitting a private businessman Anil Ambani who has no knowledge of fighter jets. He alleged the deal was the biggest scam ever in defence sector.
Addressing a press conference at a city hotel, Babbar questioned that Anil Ambani led Reliance company which has no experience of even making a bicycle get Rafale contract. He claimed that this clearly shows PM Modi's nexus with businessmen and the ground-breaking ceremony was conducted in haste.
He also claimed that the country has incurred a Rs 41,000 crore loss with the Narendra Modi government inking a new deal with French aviation company Dassault for buying 108 Rafale aircraft.
“ We have every documents with us to support our claims. The prime objective of the deal was to help Modi's friend Anil Ambani who floated the company just before 12 days of striking deal. Congress is determined to raise the ‘Rafale robbery’, the biggest scam in defence history of the country before the masses at all forums,” said the former Agra MP, who was in city today to gear up Congress workers for the 2019 elections.
Raj Babbar who is also the party spokesperson challenged both Union finance minister and Prime Minister to come clean by answering questions raised by opposition parties.
He also alleged that the Modi government was unwilling to appoint a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the Rafale deal.
“ We are surprised to see why is the BJP government senior minister and the Prime Minister not agreeing for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe, if they are innocent. Why is the finance minister not clearly specifying the actual price of the fighter aircrafts and clarify the technical upgradation done to justify the price hike of Rafale aircrafts,” said Babbar addressing media.
