Anti-incumbency brightens Cong poll prospects: Baghel

Wednesday, 31 January 2018 | Abhijat Shukla | RAIPUR

The anti-incumbency factor has brightened the prospects of the Congress party coming to power after the  upcoming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, said Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) chief Bhupesh Baghel.

The  grass-roots level workers are actively moving forward to pave the way for Congress party's poll victory, he said.

In an exclusive interview with The Pioneer, the CGPCC Chief said that the party found it imperative to cultivate relations with the people and that was why State-wide ‘Padyatras’ were taken out.

There is tremendous response from people being received by the Congress party as they are now fed up with ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the State, he said.

Baghel further said that be it farmers, tribals or youth of the State, all are distressed with the ruling BJP Government and would be voting for ousting the Government.

Farmers are angry with BJP for not keeping promise regarding increase in minimum support price (MSP) and waiver of power bills. The tribals are disappointed over non distribution of compensation even after their land was acquired by the Government, the CGPCC Chief said.

The Youth who are facing the crisis of unemployment, too are furious because of the fact that while even the problem persists, the Government was busy in outsourcing, Baghel said.

Talking about road map for party’s victory, he revealed that it was working on ‘Ek Jawan, Ek Siyan (elderly person) and Ek Mahila (female)’ formula for each and every polling booth of assembly segments all over the state.

Following this path carved by party we are assured of a sweeping victory in the coming polls, Baghel said.

Replying to a query about internal bickering in the party, Baghel without naming former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi said “the person who was dissatisfied had gone from the party and now there were no differences in the leaders of the party”.

He also ruled out any existence of third force in the ensuing elections and said the fight would be bipolar between BJP and Congress.

Baghel also ruled out accusation about alleged sidelining of scion of Khairagarh royal family and Member of Parliament Devvrat Singh.

The Congress party had given adequate prominence to him (Devvrat Singh) and that was why he was three times MlA and once MP of the party and was General Secretary of CGPCC and also empanelled as National Spokesperson of All India Congress Committee (AICC) when he quit, Baghel added.
