A total of 134 encroachments were marked of which 74 were demolished as part of the high court ordered anti-encroachment in Dehradun on Monday. The additional chief secretary Om Prakash informed that the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and district administration have been carrying out the anti-encroachment drive on the public roads, footpaths and other places in the provisional state capital.
So far, a total of 5615 encroachments have been marked out of which 3121 encroachments have been demolished. Additionally, 108 buildings have been sealed for violation of various regulations.
The additional chief secretary chaired a review meeting on Monday with members of the anti-encroachment task force. He directed the Dehradun district magistrate, municipal commissioner and the MDDA secretary to ensure that for causing obstruction to government work, a first information report is lodged immediately against any person who misbehaves with the task force members during the marking or removal of encroachments. MDDA secretary Prakash Chandra Dumka informed the additional chief secretary that during the anti-encroachment drive on Monday, one encroacher had misbehaved with a task force member. The additional chief secretary said that an FIR should be lodged immediately against the person guilty of misbehaviour. The MDDA secretary also informed that some people had again encroached upon places freed from encroachment. Responding to this, Prakash said that FIRs should be lodged against such persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the said encroachments should also be demolished. Expressing disappointment at the lack of sanitation around Parade Ground in the core of the city, Prakash directed the municipal commissioner to ensure the desired level of civic sanitation around the Parade Ground and in other parts of the city. On Tuesdayafternoon, the additional chief secretary along with the municipal commissioner will inspect Parade Ground and nearby areas. He further stressed that under no circumstances should the Sunday market be allowed near the Parade Ground to enable regulation of traffic load in the area and smooth execution of the anti-encroachment drive. FIR should be lodged against anyone who violates this direction, he stressed.
