The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday claimed that after the commission issued a notice to a leading textile company for delaying the payment of a woman proprietor of the company amounting to Rs 18 lakh, the company has finally released her compensation.
According to DCW’s spokesperson, they received a complaint from the woman proprietor of a company in October 2018, alleging long delay in her payment amounting to Rs 18 lakh from a leading textile company.
“The complainant informed the Commission that she has been in business with the said organisation for the past 20 years wherein they made timely payments to the complainant,” they said.
However, the commission stated that lately the complainant was experiencing monetary problems, misbehavior on part of the firm and untimely payments.
“In this regard, DCW Member Kiran Negi issued a notice to the Managing Director (MD) of the respondent company and directed them to make all the pending payments to the complainant,” DCW spokesperson stated in the official release.
As a result, the complainant reportedly informed the Commission that the respondent company has released two cheques towards the complainant amounting to 18 Lac rupees. One of those has been encashed and the second one is a post-dated cheque for the month of December. “The complainant without having approached the court received her entire amount of 18 Lac rupees,” they added.
DCW Chairperson said, “The Commission is functioning round the clock to assist women and girls of Delhi. While primarily we receive cases related to violence and discrimination against women, we also work on other cases where the complainant is a woman. We never reject any case and have helped thousands of women and girls avoid the legal battles and get their dues. I appeal to women and girls to fight for their rights and approach the Commission in case they need assistance.”
