The devastating flood of Kerala has not even spared Kalady, the birthplace of Jagatguru Adi Shanakaracharya. After the flood waters receded the revered ashram was found covered under mud and debris. Pained over the plight of the fabled ashram, over 50 volunteers of Gayatri Pariwar- Shantikunj- plunged into the task of cleaning the sacred place. They remained engaged in the ‘mission’ for over a week.
Notably, the Gayatri Pariwar, Shantikunj is presently actively engaged in rehabilitation works involving the flood-ravaged people of Kerala. Dr Pranav Pandya, head of Global Gayatri Pariwar, has initiated a multipronged relief operation to give succour to the hapless victims of the natural calamity.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Dr Pandya said, “We have been carrying out the basic services like reaching out food packets, medical assistance and essential goods to the suffering people. The next phase which we would embark on involves the rehabilitation work like rebuilding the community centers, school buildings and houses of the people left without shelter by the devastating flood. We have firmed up a plan of reconstructing the buildings like schools and the houses of the common people which collapsed under the fury of flood in at least two villages of every district of the southern state.” He also announced the formation of a highly equipped task force to take on any natural disaster in the future.
