State Additional Director General of police (law and order) Ashok Kumar sounded disappointended over the poor quality of investigation into cases forwarded to the district police from the State police headquarters. He said while chairing a review meeting on crime at the police headquarters here on Tuesday that the district police should be more serious about the investigation. “We find that the people who want to lodge complaints are not being taken seriously. They are perforce approaching police headquarters, seeking justice. This is delaying justice,” he said. He also said that the State police brass is worried over spike in case related to sale of land on fake documents, cyber crime and the like. “Police in the districts must promptly register cases based on the complaints of the people.
Besides, they must be more vigilant than what they are regarding the criminals who repeat crimes. The antecedents of the criminals must be thoroughly checked. Those on the run must be arrested,” he added.
He further said that to ensure smooth traffic management and maintenance of law and orders, SP City/SP Traffic/SP Rural and circle officers have been directed to make it a habit to be present on the roads. “Police station officers and circle officers should improve their response time by reaching the spot promptly upon being informed of incidents. Road encroachment menace should be dealt with stringently under section 81 of Police Act and section 133 of CrPC,” Kumar said.
Among those present at the meeting were IG (law and order) Deepam Seth, Garhwal DIG Pushpak Jyoti, SSP Nivedita Kukreti, Priti Priyadarshani, SP Cit Pradeep Kumar Rai, SP Rural Sarita Dobhal, ST Traffic lokeshwar Singh and circle officers.
