The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has projected a requirement of 569 acres of additional land along with the existing airport land of 23 acres of Chhattisgarh Government for development of Raigarh Airport in the State.
This was informed by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha in a written reply to MP Ramvichar Netam in the Rajya Sabha.
The Chhattisgarh Government had also requested to develop Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur airstrip under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), the Minister informed.
In addition to this, the State Government has also requested to develop Raipur and Raigarh airports.
AAI has undertaken work for extension of runway at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur from the existing 2286 metres to 3251 metres to make it suitable for operation of AB-321 type aircraft, he informed.
This apart, the development of Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur airstrips under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) has been undertaken by Chhattisgarh Government, Sinha informed.
Flight operations from Jagdalpur Airport have already been started, the Minister informed.
