Climate literacy campaign held in Balangir

Balangir: The Tiranga Yubak Sangh in association with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) organised a climate literacy campaign here on Wednesday. Chief guest Balangir Zilla Parishad President Bharti Mahananda inaugurated the programme. Agalpur Degree College Principal Kulamani Meher expressed concern over the deteriorating ecological balance and stressed on the need for plantation of more trees to restore the balance, besides other steps. On the occasion, around 1,200 fruit-bearing saplings were planted in the college campus and other areas. Many college students, farmers’ club members, locals and forest officials participated in the campaign.

OBC Dev Council meet held in Balangir

Balangir: The Orissa State Other Backward Class Development Council held its first meeting here on Wednesday under the chairmanship Western Odisha Yadav Development Council chairman Balramsingh Yadav. Padmashri Haldhar Nag, Santanu Naik, Balkrishna Sandh and Nabakishore Danta attended the meeting and addressed the gatherings from eleven districts of western Odisha. The meet decided to take steps for upliftment of backward classes and strive to ensure social justice.

MlA Samir Dash felicitated in Nimapara

Nimapara: The Saheed Smruti Sansad, Nimapara felicitated local MlA Samir Ranjan Dash for getting the Utkalmani Gopabandhu Samman for 2011 at a felicitation programme here on Wednesday.

lawyer Mrutyunjay Dash hoisted the programme. Among others, Sansad secretary Benudhar Senapati, Jagatsinghpur MP Kulamani Samal, block Chairman Manaswini Khatoi, NAC Chairman Sanatan Pradhan, President Jibanananda Mohapatra, block Vice-Chairman Ajay Swain, Ashok Sahoo and Pradipta Khatoi were present. A rally was also taken out in which thousands of followers participated.

MCl spends Rs 21 cr for plantation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The CSR wing of the Mahanadi Coalfields limited (MCl) organised a conclave here on Wednesday. Gracing as chief guest, CSR General Manager B Sairam said the MCl has spent Rs 21.6 crore for plantation in Odisha during the last two years. It provided Rs 7.6 crore to three forest divisions during 2016-17 and Rs 14 crore to six forest divisions during 2017-18. Besides, the CPSU distributed saplings and compensated to the Forest Department twice on plantation against forestlands acquired for coal mining. The company maintains trees for four years and 80 per cent of survival rate was registered.

2-year-old boy electrocuted in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a two-year-old boy was electrocuted after he came in contact with a live electric wire in the house at Khateibareni village under the Kankadahada police station in Dhenkanal district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Rajat, son of Bharat Biswal. The incident took place when Rajat accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire while playing inside the house. Though his family members immediately rushed him to the Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.

Youth killed in J’suguda road mishap

Jharsuguda: A 27-year-old youth was killed after a speeding truck hit his bike on BTM bypass road under the Jharsuguda Town police station on Wednesday. He was identified as Vikash Ranjan Barik of Brajrajnagar. He was on the way to his workplace, Aditya Aluminium, when the mishap occurred, said Town PS IIC Savitri Bal. The IIC said the company has assurerd a job to a member of the deceased’s family.

NTPC Kaniha provides skill training to women

 Talcher: The CSR unit of the NTPC Kaniha, Talcher organised a 45-day training programme here recently in which around 40 women were provided skill development training. After completion of the programme, the SGH members were given wet grinders, standard grinders and pressure cookers. Company DGM (HR) PK Sahu spoke on the importance of self-employment.

NTPC Kaniha conducts talent test among staff

Talcher: The NTPC Kaniha, Talcher conducted an annual quiz competition named, Regional Medha Pratiyogita, here recently. The competition held in four groups named as junior, middle, senior and employees with spouses groups. Company ED Ram Kuber sid the Medha Pratiyogita provides platform to the employees to enhance their creativities and IQ skills. Teams qualified would participate in the national level of Medha Pratiyogita.
