Most wanted criminal arrested
Panchkula: Haryana Police has arrested a most-wanted criminal of the state, Rishipal alias Pradeep, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, from Meerut road, Karnal. Police has also recovered eight loaded illicit weapons from him. A spokesman said arrested criminal, a resident of village Chulkana in Panipat, was accused in several crimes involving murder, attempt to murder, theft, robbery, criminal intimidation and conspiracy. He said that 20 cases were registered against him in different police stations of Panipat, Sonipat and Karnal districts. The accused confessed that he had brought the weapons from Uttar Pradesh with an intention to kill a person of his village Chulkana at night.
Students needs tech-savvy education
Jalandhar/Kapurthala: IK Gujral Punjab Technical University’s library (Knowledge Resource Centre) launched a mobile app on Thursday. Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Sharma launched the mobile app and said that it is the responsibility of Technical University to provide the best technology resources to all its stakeholders. He congratulated the team of Knowledge Resource Center and reiterated its promise that the day is not far when the IKG PTU will touch peak in tech-savvy world. He said that today, students need tech-savvy education in hi-tech era.
HPGCl records Rs 5,309.78 crore turnover
Chandigarh: The turnover of Haryana Power Generation Corporation limited (HPGCl) for 2017-18 was Rs 5,309.78 crore and the profit before tax was Rs 42.82 crore as against the previous year’s turnover of Rs 4,847.65 crore and a loss before tax of Rs 108.71 crore. This was informed during the meeting of Board of Directors of HPGCl. The borrowing cost of the company in 2017-18 has also come down to Rs 306.72 crore as against the previous year’s cost of Rs 408.47 crore. During the financial year 2017-18, HPGCl achieved power generation of 10,901.51 million units as against 9,645.92 million units generated during 2016-17. As on date, HPGCl has a generation capacity of 2,792.40 MW.

Writers & litterateurs remembered
Chandigarh: A colourful evening marked the celebration of the birthdays of the eminent writers as well as litterateurs at the Punjab Kala Bhawan as part of the series envisaged by the Punjab Kala Parishad. The evening was presided over by the chairman of the Punjab Kala Parishad Padmashri Surjit Patar. Paying heartfelt homage to the deceased writers and artists born during August with anecdotes from their lives, Patar also appreciated the work being done by the present emerging artists. On the occasion, various speakers spoke about the legacy bestowed by the departed writers.
PPCB transferred 44 engineers
Patiala: The Punjab Pollution Control Board chairman SS Marwaha transferred 44 engineers to further improve upon the working of the Board. Dr Charanjit Singh, Deputy Director of the Board said that with due approval of Environment Minister OP Soni, 7 senior environmental engineers, 20 environmental engineers and 17 assistant environmental engineers have been transferred so as to induce the young generation to the field duties.
