3 students killed in road mishap in Koraput
Koraput: In a tragic accident due to rash driving, three students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya here were killed while another after being seriously was fighting for life at the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital on Tuesday. The mishap occurred when a car and a crusher tipper collided near the Coffee Board office between Koraput and Jeypore at around 5 pm.
Public grievance hearing camp held in B’pur
Brahmapur: A public grievance hearing camp was organised at the Brahmapur Sub-Collector’s office on Monday. District Collector Premchand Choudhary, Sub-Collector Sidhhart Sankar Swain, BMC Commissioner Chakrabarti Singh Rathore and Additional SP Trinath Patel heard the complaints of people of different regions. A total of 115 complaints were taken up in which 12 were personal matters and two rural problems. After assessing 91 complaints regarding the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Rs 53,500 was distributed among eight complainants. Additional Collector Binod Kumar Behera, BDOs, Tehsildar, NJP Patnaik, Manoranjan Mishra, Tofan Gauda and Rama Prasad Tripathy were present.
RTI workshop held in Baleswar
Baleswar: A Right to Information (RTI) workshop was held here on Tuesday being inaugurated by district Collector Ramesh Chandra Rout in the presence of Sadar Sub-Collector Bhabataran Sahu and DRDA APD Ramchandra Palta. RTI expert Harsh Parichha stated that the RTI Act is a powerful and effective weapon in the hands of common man. He regretted that a handful of people are misusing the Act. Parichha also mentioned how to use the Act for obtaining information and the online procedure to elicit information. About 150 people including senior citizens, representatives of various sectors and officials participated.
Public grievances meet at Nimapara
Nimapara: A public grievance meeting was held here on Monday. A total of 136 complaints were registered of which 70 related to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Junior Engineer Biswajit Bastia, Gopal Krushna Dalai, Executive Officer Sankarsan Harichandan, Arvind Behera, Dealing Assistant Dipak Mishra, Computer Programmer Jyoti Nayak were asked to clarify regarding negligence in development works. Collector Arvind Agarwal, Sub-Collector Madhusudan Das, Project Director Udhab Majhi, BDO Khirod Pradhan and Tehsildar Kamaljeet Das were present.
Nimapara Youth Club holds annual day
Nimapara: The Pulakeswari Youth Club held its 44th annual function at Patoligram village here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Premananda Sahoo. Comedy artist Brajabandhu Routray was felicitated. Among others, local MlA Samir Ranjan Dash, Padma Shri Bhabani Charan Pattnaik, Block Chairman Manaswini Khatoi, Sarpanch Puspalata Routray, former Chairman Pradipta Khatoi, Sachidananda Routray and Dukhishyam Mallik were present. Rungta Mines holds Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Champua: The Rungta Mines observed the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Barbil on Monday. Bhubaneswar Regional Controller of Mines Hrushikesh Meena flagged off the event. He said priority should be given to cleanliness so that Swachh Bharat Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be fulfilled. Alluwalia 1.2-MT pellets plant opened in Bargil
Champua: A 1.2-metric tonne-per-annum pellets plant of the KJS Alluwalia Group was inaugurated at Bargil by its chairman KJS Alluwalia on Tuesday. KJS Alluwalia Group MD Prasanta Kumar Alluwalia said iron ore fines which were being exported earlier to China, would now be utilised by the plant and local youths can be provided jobs so that government's policy of value addition would also be fulfilled. Among others, Manjula Alluwalia, BM Sarangi, SR Krishnan and Ranjit Singh were present.
