Punjab Guv, CM, Speaker greet people on Guru Ravi Dass jayanti
Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, and Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh on Tuesday extended greetings on the eve of parkash utsav of Guru Ravi Dass. They called upon the people to strive hard to create a casteless society as envisioned by Guru Ravi Dass, a great spiritual Ambassador and exponent of Bhagti Movement. Describing Guru Ravi Dass as a divine soul and a great social reformer, Badnore said that the real tribute to the revered saint would be to carry forward his legacy to the present and future generations.
Punjab declares holiday on Jan 31
Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Tuesday announced a holiday on January 31, Wednesday, to mark the parkash utsav of Guru Ravi Dass under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881.
TDI free education to kids of BSF martyrs
Chandigarh: As a gesture of goodwill, TDI International School at Kundli in Haryana will offer free education to four children of martyrs of Border Security Force. TDI managing director Ravinder Taneja met BSF director general KK Sharma and made the offer. Taneja said that TDI is planning to start schools of international standards in Gurgaon, Panipat, and Mohali. He said that similar offer will be made for the children of martyrs of Haryana police and CRPF.
Talent show by Udaan welfare society for disabled
Panchkula: The Udaan Welfare Society, a society run by persons with visual disability, organised a music talent show to bring forward the hidden talent of persons with disability. More than 170 persons from across India participated. Two rounds were held on Radio Udaan, a pet project of Udaan Welfare Society, and for the first time, the grand finale of “Udaan Idol” was organised at Panchkula’s Jatt Bhawan in Sector 6. Haryana’s former DGP MS Malik was the chief guest and the price distribution ceremony was facilitated by Ambala MP Ratan lal Kataria and renowned Panjabi singer Dolly Guleria.
Verka to reduce price of double toned milk
Chandigarh: Verka, the flagship brand of Punjab state owned cooperative Milkfed, has decided to reduce the price of double toned milk by Rs two per litre for 500 ml pack with immediate effect. The price has reduced from Rs 38 per litre to Rs 36 per litre. Milkfed additional managing director HS Grewal said that price reduction is sure to delight the weight watchers as the double toned milk is ideal for those trying to maintain weight as it keeps the calorie intake under control and also helps in weight loss. Notably, Verka passes a huge chunk of its sales realization from milk towards the procurement of milk.
Haryana CM to inaugurate HAHC’s annual conference
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal will inaugurate second annual conference of Haryana Academy of History and Culture to be organized in Kurukshetra University from February 1 to 3. Varsity spokesperson said that Chief Minister would also inaugurate an exhibition on partition the same day. Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Information, Public Relations and languages Minister Kavita Jain and Minister of State for Cooperation Manish Grover would also grace the occasion.
Dhankar to meet agri officials at Nimana village
Chandigarh: Haryana Development and Panchayats Minister OP Dhankar will preside over a meeting with the senior officers of the Department at Nimana village in Jhajjar district on February 1 to prepare blueprint of schemes of village development to be implemented during the year 2018-19. Spokesperson said that all Additional Deputy Commissioners and District Development and Panchayats Officers would also participate in the meeting. Dhankar would also held detailed discussion with the officers for preparing a blue print of schemes of rural development for the year 2018-19.
Selvaraj appointed as CVO of all vigilance cases
Chandigarh: Haryana Government has appointed K Selvaraj, Director General of Police, Railway as Chief Vigilance Officer or Nodal Officer of all vigilance related matters to root out corruption using preventive and participatory strategies, for Police Department in addition to his present duties, with immediate effect.
Haj panel extends date to deposit advance
Chandigarh: The Haj Committee has extended the last date for depositing advance for Haj-2018, till February 12. Spokesperson said that after depositing advance, provisionally selected applicants for Haj-2018 have been directed to submit their original passport, receipt of advance paid and medical fitness certificate in the office of Haryana State Haj Committee. Incomplete documents would not be accepted and the provisional selection would also be cancelled.
City to host four-day ‘Int-Ext Expo’ from Friday
Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore will inaugurate the four-day Interior Exterior and building materials show — INT-EXT EXPO — at the Parade ground on February 2. The Expo would showcase more than 200 exhibitors who will present the latest trends in the world of interiors, antiques and curios, aquarium artefacts, bathroom fittings and accessories, elaborating technology, innovations, equipment and concepts for the architects and designers’ community. The exhibition will remain open from 10 am to 7 pm daily from February 2 to 5.
PGI OPDs closed
Chandigarh: All OPDs in PGI shall remain closed on January 31, 2018, on account of Guru Ravi Dass birthday, a gazetted holiday. Emergency services will function as usual.

loudspeakers banned from 10 pm to 6 am
Chandigarh: UT District Magistrate Ajit Balaji Joshi on Tuesday passed orders banning playing of any kind of music or sounds originating from any kind of instrument, appliance or apparatus capable of producing or re-producing sound between 10 pm and 6 am in Chandigarh for a period of 60 days—that is from January 31 to March 31. The orders came after it was noticed that the practice of playing loudspeakers during night hours (10 pm to 6 am) is widely prevalent in Chandigarh which is causing annoyance and disturbing the public peace and tranquillity.
