With an investment of Rs 1100 crore, the Union Ministry for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises has set up two International Centres for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in IMT Manesar of district Gurugram.
Four test facilities in the ICAT Centre-II were inaugurated by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Anant G Geete, who said that a total of 16 different world class testing facilities were being providing in both these centres.
He said that only test track facility remains to be set up here, after which ICAT Manesar will be full-fledged testing centre. Every type of testing facility for automotive industry will be available in IMT Manesar and then it will be dedicated to the nation.
The Minister said that these Centres are rendering valuable services to the automotive industry in the country in a major way. According to Geete, ten different testing facilities were being provided in ICAT Centre-I which is spread over 8 acres (32,376 sq.m) of land and 6 facilities will be provided at ICAT Centre-II which is spread over 46.6 acres (1,87,335 sq.m) of land. The four new facilities inaugurated by Geete at ICAT Manesar include Noise Vibration & Harshness (NVH) lab, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) lab, Passive Safety lab (PSl) popularly known as Crash Test and Tyre Test lab (TTl).
