Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has issued instructions to the Home secretary and Justice secretary to ensure that for the speedy disposal of the cases related to the cases of women and child abuse, the work on setting up a fast track court in the State is done.
The chief minister said that unfortunately, such incidents are occurring in ‘Devbhoomi’.
The Indian Parliament has made a provision for according the death penalty to those convicted of raping children. In the new year, a fast track court will be set up to ensure speedy justice in such cases in the state, said the chief minister.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the recent past there have been cases in which girls and women were either sexually assaulted or even fatally attacked in the state. Recently, a young lady in Pauri was set on fire by a man who had been spurned by her some time ago. She was provided the required treatment but succumbed to her injuries. Shortly after this incident, a young lady was allegedly gang raped in Karnprayag area of Chamoli district. The alleged rapists were arrested and sent to jail by the court. Similar incidents of gender crimes have been rising in various parts of the state, eliciting outrage from the local public.
