Around 12-15 passengers of an Ambala-bound train were robbed at knifepoint by four unidentified men soon after the train departed from the Hazrat Nizamuddin station in the wee hours of Friday, said to a Northern Railway (NR) official.
“The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ambala train departed from Hazrat Nizamuddin station around 3.56 am and it was stopped between Nizamuddin and Tilak Bridge section minutes later,” said Northern Railway spokesperson Nitin Chowdhary. The official said four men carrying knives entered a general coach and threatened 12-15 passengers and snatched away valuables such as mobile phones, cash and jewellery from them. “One passenger sustained injuries in the scuffle,” he said, adding passengers have filed a complaint at the New Delhi Railway Station. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case in this regard.
However, the Delhi Police denied the report that robbery took place in the train.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Parvaiz Ahmed told The Pioneer, “We received a complaint from a woman who came to the New Delhi Railway police station on Friday morning from where she was asked to come to Hazrat Nizammudeen Railway police station.
As per the complaint submitted by the woman, after scrutinising the contents, we have registered an FIR under sections of theft.”
The Railway officials said after the passengers filed the complaints, they were brought to the Nizammudeen Railway station to register a case with the Government Railway Police.
The DCP said the Railway Police is investigating the incident and have also recorded statements of victims.
