Keeping its tirade against the BJP Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on controversial Rafale Deal, the Congress not only blamed Modi but said country has incurred a loss of Rs 41,000 crores. Senior Congress leader Jaipal Reddy alleged that the country has incurred a loss to the extent of Rs 41,000 Crore with NDA Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi striking new deal with a French Company for purchase of 108 Rafel fighter jets.
Addressing a Press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday, former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy said that the deal was mainly aimed at helping Modi’s friend Anil Ambani who floated a new company just before 12 days of striking the deal. Reddy blasted Modi and alleged “Modi is the middle man for the deal between French Company and industrialist Anil Ambani”.
He said "The new deal has not only affected Public Sector HAl, which was supposed to produce the aircrafts as per previous agreement by UPA government, but also lost the opportunity of creating 10,000 jobs for youths. "He said the claim of the NDA government that the deal was more transparent and the cost is less as far from truth, the congress leader demanded making public details of the deal.
He came down on the government for not appointing a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the Rafele deal and said “fearing that truth will come out”.
He said Prime Minister Modi has not replied to 10 questions posed by AICC President Rahul Gandhi on the deal and he (Modi) is under the impression that he is above Country and the Constitution.
The Congress has fielded many of its leaders apart from Congress President Rahul Gandhi to mount pressure on the government on Rafale deal. It has fielded former Union Minister and veteran leader, S Jaipal Reddy, to mount a fresh offensive on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ignoring due procedure, national security, escalating prices and causing loss to public exchequer, to benefit industrialist, Anil Ambani, in the Rafale fighter jet purchase deal.
He had said in Delhi that neither the Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, nor the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) or even the Indian Air Force were kept informed when the PM went to France in April 2015 and signed the Rafale deal with the French President, Emmanuel Macron.
