India and Guyana on Tuesday signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the field of Renewable Energy, Cultural Exchange Programme and Framework Agreement on International Solar Alliance during the ongoing visit of the 2nd Vice President and the Foreign Minister of Guyana, Carl B. Greenidge. During their meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Guyanese delegation also presented the Instrument of Ratification of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
Greenidge is on official visit to New Delhi from January 29 to February 2. He is accompanied by a 4-member delegation including the Minister of Natural Resources and the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. India and Guyana will complete 50 years of their full diplomatic relations this year.
According to Ministry of External Affairs, discussions between the two sides focused on further strengthening India-Guyana bilateral relations, through cooperation in capacity building, promotion of business and trade, enhancement of people to people contact and cooperation on pharmaceuticals. Guyana sought to benefit from India's experience in Information Technology by setting up IT Centres of Excellence in Georgetown.
"Views were also exchanged on regional and multilateral issues such as climate change, solar alliance and UNSC reforms," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
Greenidge also held discussions with Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of State for Renewable Energy for further strengthening trade between the two countries. He also held talks with Upendra Tripathy, Secretary General ,National Institute of Solar Energy. On Wednesday Greenidge will have a meeting with Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
