The western Indian State of Gujarat to draw attention of entire globe as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the ‘Statue of Unity’ – the tallest statue of the world - to the nation on Wednesday morning to mark the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The 182-metre tall statue of India’s first Home Minister Sardar Patel is more than four times taller than Statue of Liberty situated in New York. Unlike the Statue of Liberty (built with copper), the Statue of Unity has been constructed using iron to symbolise Sardar’s image of ‘Ironman of India’.
On Wednesday Modi will dedicate the Statue of Unity project to the nation as a symbol of United India at Sadhu Bet in Kevadiya Colony near Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada amidst chanting of mantras, spreading of holy water and lighting the ceremonial lamp at the foot of the world’s tallest statue.
A grand function has been organised to mark the event on the bank of Narmada in which dance forms by cultural troupes from 29 States and 2 Union Territories and drumbeats of seven ceremonial military and police bands would perform. The Prime Minister will also dedicate ‘Wall of Unity’ at the pedestal of the statue.
