Alert in Arunachal, Assam districts after reports of heavy rain in China

With reports of heavy rainfall in China, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have asked two districts of the concerned States to be on alert.

While the Dhemaji district in eastern Assam has asked the people, particularly in low land areas to remain on alert, the East Siang district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has also asked the people not to venture out in Siang river for fishing.

“As of now we are not carrying out evacuation but the reports have concerned us and we have asked the people of the low lying areas to remain alert,” said Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati on Thursday.

She said that the district administration have already taken stock of the water level of Siang River and there is no abnormal rise of water level till 4 pm on Thursday. “We are coordinating with the neighbouring districts of Arunachal Pradesh,” she said.

The East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh have also asked the people to remain on alert and not to venture out into Siang River for Fishing, swimming and other activities.

“As per report received from Chinese Government relayed to India, due to heavy rainfall in Chinese portion, the Tsangpo River is swelling with observed discharge of 9,020 cum/ sec on Wednesday at 8 AM at various locations,” an official of the East Siang district said on Thursday.

“Following this, we have asked the people living in low lying areas on right bank and left bank Siang River including Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Mer been advised to remain alert,” he added.
