Over five dozen MPs and MlAs in the country have declared they are facing charges of abduction. Of the total 64 such MPs and MlAs, 16 are from the BJP while six each are from the Congress and the RJD. Others who are on the list are 5 from NCP, 4 each from the BJD and the DMK, 3 each from the SP and the TDP as well as 2 each from the TMC, CPM, CPI-Ml and Shiv Sena. One each from the lok Janashakti Party, the JD-U, the TRS and the Nishad Party in Uttar Pradesh besides four Independents are also on the list. The findings were released on Monday by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR, an NGO that works for electoral and political reforms. According to ADR findings, 1,024 MPs and MlAs having serious criminal charges against them. Among these, 1,024 MPs and MlAs, 64 have declared charges related to kidnapping against themselves. Majority of them are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
It said the affidavits of 770 MPs and 4,086 State legislators revealed that 1,024 or some 21 per cent of lawmakers in the country have declared “serious criminal charges against themselves”. Of the MlAs with declared charges related to kidnapping, the highest number — that is nine each — are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, followed by eight from Maharashtra, six from West Bengal, four each from Odisha and Tamil Nadu, three each from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan and one each from Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab and Telangana.

Earlier last month, an ADR reports also stated that 96 per cent of the Ministers in Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s Cabinet are millionaires or crorepatis. The report also revealed that N Mahesh of the BSP was the only leader who is not a crorepati among those who were analysed.
