2 leT men shot in Bandipora exchange of fire

Two terrorists of banned lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) outfit have been killed during a fierce gunfight in Hajin village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday.

The encounter triggered off in Parra Mohalla area of Hajin in the wee hours after receiving specific input on presence of terrorists there. Heavy clashes were reported from the area near the gunfight site and adjacent areas.

A police official said that during the searches, terrorists fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter two terrorists were killed.

“Huge quantity of arms and ammunition including rifles, magazines, pouches and incriminating material was recovered from the site of encounter,” the official said.

He said from the incriminating material seized from the site of encounter, it is learnt that both the killed terrorists were foreigners from Pakistan and identified as Rizwan alias Jindaal and Ali alias Maaz. Both were affiliated with proscribed terrorist outfit leT and were involved in several attacks on security establishments and civilians.

Police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.

During the gunfight a civilian identified as Muhammad Akbar Bhat of Khosa Mohalla was injured. Bhat received a bullet in his shoulder and was shifted to Bones and Joint Hospital Srinagar where his condition is stated to be stable. During the gunfight, clashes erupted between local youth and forces personnel. Reports said that several protesters were injured in these clashes.
