A Class IX student alleged that he was ragged and sexually assaulted for last one year by his five classmates at a Government school in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area.
The matter came to light on Monday, when the boy refused to go to school by saying the teacher had asked him to stay at home for 15 days.
When the family insisted, he narrated his ordeal.
Confirming the incident, Shibesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) said, “We have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. Three students have been apprehended, further investigations is on.”
A senior police officer said, “For the past one year, when the student was in Class VIII, he was being reportedly sodomised by the five students at knifepoint within the school premises.”
It was only after the family of the victim protested that the three accused students were suspended while an enquiry is being initiated against the remaining two students.
“The boy told his parents that when he was in Class 8, he was given corporal punishment.
“The group of five students then approached him and threatened him by pointing knife while assaulting him. Since then these students used to call him in the washroom and repeat the offence,” said the senior police officer.
last week, one of the teachers caught these students red handed and at that time these five students were carrying a knife in their hand.
After scolding him, the teacher released them and asked the victim student to not come to school for at least 15 days.
On Monday his parents learnt about the assault. They reached police and also dialed the Child Helpline number. When the school was contacted by the parents of the victim, they assured action.
On Tuesday morning, when the parents protested outside the school, the authorities took action and suspended three of the five culprit students. Meanwhile, initial investigation has been ordered against the remaining two students.
Till Tuesday evening, the victim was being counselled after the medical examination was conducted. Senior police officials said the probe is underway.
