A day after an eight-month-old baby girl was raped by her 28-year-old relative in Northwest Delhi’s Shakupur basti area, the Delhi Commission of Women on Tuesday announced Rs 50,000 compensation to the parents of the infant rape victim.
The victim underwent a three hour surgery as her major part of the intestines was ripped apart. Requesting anonymity, a doctor from Kalawati Saran Hospital said, “The patient is too young and since surgery, she is being kept in the Intensive Care Unit. When she was brought to the hospital, she had lost lot of blood and was in a critical condition. Her organs and body parts are too delicate to go through this pain. We are keeping close eye on her condition and hoping that she will recover soon.”
“Suraj is the son of my elder brother. We are like family and often my daughter used to stay with my brother’s family members.
Me and my wife both work as contractual labors and used to leave house early. We keep our daughter to them to look after but incident shocked us,” said victim’s father.
The mother of the victim who discovered the victim lying in the pool of blood had sleepless night since Sunday and could not forget the moment. “That was the worst thing I have ever witnessed,” said victim’s mother while regretting for coming half an hour late from usual timing. Adding further she said that she would never go that house again which will haunt her for forever. “Everyone used to pretend as if they love my daughter but now none from Suraj’s family visited the house yet.”
Husband wife duo was shocked to hear when doctors of Kalawati Saran Hospital told them that their eight month old daughter would have to go through surgery as her intestines are deeply hurt and she had lost lot of blood.
“She is so small. I don’t understand why people are so bad. My mother always tells me to stay aware and conscious before going out alone”, said victim’s three year old sister.
A senior investigating officer, “Suraj is a psychopath and was trying to dodge the questions earlier but on sustained interrogation he confessed to his crime. He is not a regular alcoholic but consumes alcohols occasionally.
Prime facie we have found that he had such intentions towards the infant but due to the presence of family members he could not commit it before”.
Swati Maliwal Delhi Commissioner for Women visited the hospital on Monday late night and three to four volunteers from DCW have been deployed to the hospital for keeping close watch on the medical condition of victim.
