Taking cognizance on traffic chaos in old Gurguram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Dev-elopment Authority(GMDA) will construct an underpass along with Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Mahavir Chowk and a flyover at Gurudwara road .
"We are preparing the design of the underpass along with flyover. In the first phase, we will build an underpass. A final call on the project will be taken place in a meeting headed by PWD Minister. In the meeting, we will finalize the project and we will soon call for tenders, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), V Umashankar, said.
Detailing about project, he further added that Rs 56 crore will be spent for Underpass along with FOB at Mahavir Chowk and Rs 62 Crore for a flyover at Gurudwara Road.
While Mahavir Chowk and Gurudwara Road are often dogged by traffic problems, with autos parked on the stretch grabbing a lot of road space, the flyover and underpass is a need of the hour to ease traffic movement in millennium city.
The area near the civil hospital, bus terminal and Sadar Bazaar sees long traffic snarls every day.
Despite actions like creating a dedicated lane for autos and closing existing gaps in the median, the traffic police have not been able to prevent the traffic woes.
Similarly, thousands of patients, who visit the district's biggest government hospital, Vegetable Market and Bus Stand find it difficult to cross the busy Mahavir Chowk and Gurudwara Road.

It may be noted that the GMDA has long been planning to decongest Old Gurugram's traffic which includes underpasses, foot over bridges and flyovers at several stretches on busy roads.
"The flyover, underpass and FOB would bring relief to tens of lakhs of commuters who struggle currently through unending traffic jams on these stretches which traffic cops find difficult to manage," said Subhash Singla, a councillor from the area.
