To ensure police presence on city roads and help victims, the Gurugram Police has introduced 78 Police Control Room (PCR) bikes equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) to track the location of police personnel on duty. The figure for such vehicles will soon be increased by 100.
These PCR riders have also been connected to the police control room. So that the nearest PCR riders can reach on time and help victims. Each bike has their own particular number along with riders contact number and same will be monitored at police commissioner's office. To track the location of cops a special screen will be installed at the Police Commissioner’s office.
Police personnel on duty will work under three shifts and every three months the riders will be replaced by the other cops. The cops on duty will tackle eve-teasing, snatching and other petty offences.
“We just want to improve police presence on city roads and decrease police response time. It is an improved version of earlier systems which gives minute details about route followed, distance and area covered (in km), duration of stay at any location during the day, details about police official riding the bike with his contact number, it will help fuel utilization, reaching the crime scene at specific time, current and past locations, points checked by them etc,” KK Rao Commissioner of Police said.
“Besides control room, these patrolling vehicles will connect with each 35 police station as well. Residents of the city will feel safe with the presence of these riders,” he added.
City police has identified vulnerable stretches in Gurugram where police personnel will patrol and these are; DlF area, Sushant lok, MG Road, leisure Valley Park, Gurudwara Road, Rajiv Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Sector-14 and Sadar Bazar.
“In case anybody tries to tamper with the system, an alert will be sent on the mobile phone of concerned officers and control room. It will also give location and details of stay in case bike is turned off. With this technology we can check all complaints regarding PCR bikes and staff,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. The two-wheelers will come equipped with sirens, flashlights, and other essential police accessories. These bikes will patrol all city roads round-the-clock.
