Tuesday, 31 July 2018 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

In yet another case of fetus being abandoned in the national Capital, a fetus was found in the women washroom of Dr Ram Manohar lohia hospital on Sunday evening. Police are trying to determine the identity of the woman who abandoned the fetus and then went out of the hospital.

Ther Delhi Police on Sunday were informed of an abandoned fetus found in the lavatory of the female washroom in Ram Manohar lohia Hospital. A case has been registered in North Avenue police station, police said.

DCP (New Delhi district) Madhur Verma on Monday revealed that it was an aborted fetus. As the fetus was not claimed on police enquiry, a case under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered, which deals with intentional concealment of birth — either by burying or disposing the body secretly — irrespective of death before or after birth and is punishable with a maximum term of two years and a fine.

The crime team has inspected the location of the incident and a medico-legal case is being prepared. An FIR has been registered in North Avenue police station and investigation is under way, he said.  The fetus was sent for postmortem to ascertain its gestational age, the DCP said.
