The student organisations in poll fray to the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, in their bid to garner support of common students and also to portray their strength, are organising rallies and fest. The right wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a “Chhatra Adhikar Rally” at the north campus of Delhi University on Thursday while the National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) launched its women manifesto and organised a cultural fest to lure youngsters particularly the women.
NSUI demanded implementation of UGC guidelines on Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to prevent sexual harassment of women, basic self defense classes in campus, special seminar on skill development and entrepreneurship for girls, special seminar on skill development and entrepreneurship for girls, periodic counseling to guide and mentor girls in academics, sports and personality development , standard marks advantage to sports girls who represent institution on various levels , special university buses only for girls, hostel facility in outer campus women colleges.
On the other hand thousands of students rallied behind the student leader Shakti Singh and others of ABVP, participating in the “Chatra Adhikar Rally” at the arts faculty.
While addressing the students in rally ABVP state secretary Bharat Khatana and national joint organizing secretary Shri Niwas reiterated demands like increment in number of beneficiaries of fellowship for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and OBC students, increment in number of hostels, setting up of CCTV cameras in university among others.
