5 gun-toting robbers loot jewellery shop, flee with Rs 50l ornaments

In chilling incident of daylight loot on Thursday, a jewellery showroom was robbed of more than Rs 50 lakh jewellery and cash in the national Capital’s Pandav Nagar. Five car-borne assailants allegedly entered Kanishka Jewellers around 12 in the afternoon and looted the shop at gunpoint, police said.

According to police, the owner of the showroom one Vijay alleged that he, his wife and their employees were present in the showroom when the incident unfolded. “At noon, a car suddenly parked near their showroom and five robbers entered the shop. They took out their guns and started threatening them,” he said.

Police stated that the robbers brought their own bags with them and looted the showroom of its ornaments and cash worth more than Rs 50 lakhs and fled the scene. “As soon as the robbers fled, the couple called police. Cops have registered a case in Pandav Nagar police station,” said a police official.

Police are looking at CCTV footage in the area to identify the accused and trace the car they had used in the crime. The Police are also taking the help of forensic experts in order to determine the robber’s fingerprints.

“For now we have gathered CCTV footage in the area to identify the criminals. The robbers have also taken away the DVD of the CCTV installed in the showroom. We have also secured the entrance to the showroom. Further investigation is going on to catch the accused,” said a senior police official.
