Hero Motocorp on Tuesday unveiled their latest product, the Xtreme 200R a roadster motorcycle which will be launched later this year.
This is the company’s first major unveil of a new product from their Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Kukas, Rajasthan. While the company promises more product unveils at the Auto Expo next month, the Xtreme 200R is part of the company’s new strategy to focus on the premium segment of the market.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Malo le Masson, Head of Global Product Planning, Hero Motocorp explained that the company’s focus will be on the 200-250cc segment as they feel that will be the fastest growing part of the market.
“While the numbers for 100-125cc motorcycles will remain stable, the numbers in this segment will grow dramatically in the coming years, as more consumers buy their second or third motorcycles. This segment is also price-sensitive but prices between Rs 1.5-2.0 lakh will attract customers.”
Hero Motocorp while a leader in the commuter segment of motorcycles has lagged behind its rivals in the premium segment with Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor leading.
Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer, Hero Motocorp told The Pioneer that the Xtreme 200R will form the basis of the manufacturers future premium models. “We have some exciting models in the pipeline and the Xtreme 200R is just the start.”
