An undertrial in a murder case was allegedly shot dead by two people outside the Rohini district court on Saturday while he was being brought for a hearing. Mohit, one of the alleged assailant, was apprehended from gate number five of the district court where the shooting took place.
Police suspect a gang war as the accused, Mohit, belonged to the Neeraj Bawania gang while the deceased identified as Rajesh Durmut was a member of the Neetu Dabodhia gang. Police recovered two country made pistols from Mohit. The assailant fired two bullets from the point-black range. Rajesh, the undertrail, was taken to Dr BR Ambedkar hospital in Rohini where doctors declared him brought dead.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rohini district, Rishi Pal Singh said the accused identified as 19-year-old Mohit alias Atankwadi, was arrested from the spot after police overpowered him.
The DCP said accused Mohit was accompanied by another criminal of the same gang Satish, who absconded after the incident.
“Both of them had arrived outside the Rohini court by bike. Satish helped identify Rajesh for Mohit,” said the DCP.
Mohit, who was in an inebriated condition ran close to Rajesh and fired two shots at his chest.
Rajesh collapsed on the ground writhing in pain and bleeding profusely. A call to the police was made and a PCR van, along with senior police officials of the district, reached the spot.
“The under trial identified as Rajesh , who was arrested by the Haryana Police in a murder case in December 2016, was being take to the court for hearing. He was listed as a Bad Character (BC) in Outer district’s Bawana Police Station. The accused, Mohit, belongs to Rohad village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, the police official added.
The DCP said,” After the incident, we registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Prashant Vihar police station and Mohit is being questioned to find out the motive and the involvement of more persons behind the murder.
“Further investigation is going on to identify other players who could be involved in the planning and execution of this killing.”
