Top brass pick Rao to douse K'taka BJP fire

Sunday, 30 April 2017 | Kestur Vasuki | Bengaluru

Three days after the “Save BJP” convention organsied by rebel leader and the leader of the Opposition in the council KS Eshwarappa in Bengaluru, which led to open feud against BJP strong man BS Yeddyurappa, the Central BJP leadership have decided to douse the fire of rebellion. In fact Yeddyurappa was in New Delhi to attend a programme of birth anniversary of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwra where Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong pitch for women’s empowerment and equal partnership and appealed to the Muslim community against politicising the triple talaq issue.

Yeddyurappa in fact went there to meet the party elders to complain against KS Eshwarappa and RSS strongman Bl Santosh and his alleged role in the rebellion in the State unit. According to party sources Central leaders took serious note of the rebellion in the State unit ahead of the Assembly polls in just ten months, which they think the feud might affect the chances of party’s entry into south.

The high command in view of the increased feud and war of words has sent State in-charge Muralidhar Rao to assess the situation which is going out of limits. According to BJP sources Yeddyurappa also complained to Ram lal, the organising secretary of the party against the conspiracy  allegedly hatched by Bl Santosh and Eshwarappa against him. Recently Yeddyurappa blasted Santhosh and blamed him for fuelling rebellion against him in the party.

According to party sources Muralidhar Rao who is in Bengaluru on Saturday will have a closed door meetings with the neutral groups to ascertain the facts about the rebellion and its consequences on the party before the

elections. He will also try dousing the fire before it takes a major damage on the image of the party.

However party has declared Yeddyurappa as the Chief Ministerial candidate in the 2018 elections and it is crucial for the BJP to defeat the ruling Congress to enter south which might be difficult task looking at the intense feud.

Yeddyurappa is also said to have been advised to ‘amicably sort’ the issue with KS Eshwarappa. The party senior leadership has also advised Yeddyurappa, sources said, to attempt a patch up before the centre intervenes.

Infighting in the BJP touched a new low when rebel workers convened a ‘Save BJP’ meet in Bengaluru earlier this week.

Rao is expected to send a report on the ground reality of the dissent in the party following which action will be initiated by the senior leadership. Rao is also expected to talk to dissidents and try to address their grouse.
